If you’ve rotated the same six meals weekly for the past few months and want to find something new, consider looking on Pinterest. If you don’t have an account, it’s worth creating one just for recipes alone — the choices are literally right at your fingertips.

  • Start broadly, then narrow your search. Let’s say you want to find a chicken recipe for a quick weeknight meal. As you’ll see, simply typing in “chicken recipes” gives you more recipes than you know what to do with…it may seem a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, just above your results you’ll find subcategories that can help you narrow it down: Not only can you choose “total time,” “diet,” and “ingredient,” you can also choose from such categories as “easy,” “healthy,” “crock pot,” etc. If someone has written about a chicken recipe somewhere on the web, you can bet someone has pinned it to a Pinterest board.
  • Look at specific boards or pinners. Want a certain type of recipe? Several people have created boards dedicated to it. Whether you want gluten-free, low-glycemic or vegetarian, you can pick and choose from potentially hundreds of boards and people. You may also want to scout around and see which boards or pinners have a lot of followers — logic dictates that nobody wants to follow someone with lousy-tasting food. Whether you prefer Martha Stewart pinterest recipes, Ina Garten (“Ina Garten recipes” will give you various board choices) or Skinnytaste, you’ll likely find boards for the type of recipes you want. And when you follow that person, Pinterest will alert you when they post something new.
  • Make your own boards. Get creative — if you simply put together “recipes,” you’ll have everything in one place…but you can get even more specific to keep things organized. Try broadening with categories such as “healthy + quick weeknight meals,” “veggie side dishes,” “desserts,” “tailgate recipes,” or whatever fits your needs. Then you can easily find them again when you come back. Best of all, when you find a recipe you like, Pinterest will suggest similar ones for you to peruse. Your only warning? Try not to fall down the rabbit hole of searching or you’ll find you’ve spent two hours just trawling through everything.

Think of Pinterest as what it is: An online way to pin up recipes that will spice up your kitchen and your weekly routine. Happy pinning!
